and i mean that in a good, no, GREAT way.
Danny, Boboy and Jim of the Apo Hiking Society brought the house down in their concert here in the city last night. i was feeling sick the whole day, and almost didn't want to go. but it was to be my first Apo concert, and it was going to be with my mom (and with yen and her boyfriend karl). so i went, feeling so drabby i was literally dragging my feet to the venue. when we got to the albay astrodome it was hell-hot. and i mean hell-hot -- the air-conditioning was not working, and it felt like ten thousand people squeezed in one sauna. it was so unbelievably hot i was sure i was going to lose consciousness, or what was left of my sanity. after the concert i was 10 pounds lighter. or at least felt like it.
Despite the heat though, the legendary trio sang their hits (that happen to span three decades, wow!) with much gusto, and entertained the people in the sauna with funny anecdotes and jokes (they even did a Beyonce number! so funny). when they sang "Panalangin", i swear i saw visions of my wedding party in my head. i mean MY wedding party? come on, hahaha.
one of the best moments in the stage was in "la la la la" part of their song "Ewan", when Boboy picked up a bunch of cartolinas that had "LA LA LA LA" in them and the three geniuses urged the audience to sing (which didn't require them to lift a finger - the crowd was in love) with them. when i saw my mom laughing and clapping along i knew that coming to the concert was all worth it.
The APO was so good that they had an encore. everybody was melting in the heat (including them - grabe they were wearing long sleeved "costume" tunics "na may lining pa!" - sabi ni Boboy hahaha) but they still sang one of their most-loved songs, Awit ng Barkada. perfect way to end one of the best, if not the best, concert ever in the city.
and did i say that i have a long-running school-girl crush on jim paredes?
aaaaaaiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Loved your review. We really had fun as well even if the venue needed serious ventilation! ha ha
Legaspi was just wonderful. We have been touring the past two and a half months in the US and some parts of the Philippines and it's been great so far.
I am amazed that people are responding in a big way to our music wherever we go.We can only be thankful.
