i nearly coughed my breakfast out my nose this morning when i heard this over the news: some folks over in Poland want to ban the popular children's show The Teletubbies because it could be encouraging wide-eyed youngsters to be *cough* gay. (i grew up with Batibot and Sesame Street so Tinky Winky and his pals aren't really familiar to me.)

Tinky Winky was particularly singled out because he seem to be extra fanciful of umm...err...handbags, and other "girly" accessories (he also is fond of wearing tutus, i heard).

nice purse Tinky Winky...*apir!*

so boys carrying ladies' bags are now gay? well how about girls carrying men's bags? are they gay too?

Rain arrival at New Jersey May 2007
Credit: Shaister @ soompi

so hunky Rain could be gay now? is that Loius Vuitton bag a dead giveaway??

Ji Hoon and his bag.
don't even dare say it.

i can see thousands of adoring fans getting ready to commit harakiri now...or at least get someone to commit harakiri. i mean, how can bags indicate gayness? and like toddlers can actually tell if holding a hand bag is a sign of gayness? i swear homophobia is so last century.

all this gay talk is making me miss my gayfriends! mga bakla miss ko na kayo!! *insert gaylingo expletive here*

in other matters...

looks like britney might just be seriously on the road to recovery...she posted a message to her fans explaining her breakdown...well, hope the girl does recover, she was quite a performer during her glory days (though i didn't really like her singing/wasn't a fan). everyone falls from grace sometimes (though some manage to fall off from the top of a skyscraper) so all i can say is well, get up girl, get up!

talking about getting up...heard that my ji hoon oppa figured in a traffic accident and hurt his collarbone...*worries*...hope he recovers soon *kisses to oppa*

good news: haha! got my passport last monday! 26 more days to go for me and mira and HK!

aaannndd, yen and i we got our T20 now, tomorrow (or later) i'll start clicking, hope to get some really nice shots out there (and not just of myself hahaha!)

P.S. ~ just an afterthought. so what if tinky winky is gay?

If you can't kick ass at it, don't do it.
~ Jessica Zafra's philosophy in life (Twisted Travels)

writing this at 2:38 in the morning, after revising 40 articles.

i do not know if i am being punished by some cosmic judicial system for something that i have done in the past (was telling off that guy to go take a hike that bad??) but i do not know why after years of editing other people's work here i am, with probably the truest test of my patience as a human being. my eyes feel like they are about to slide off their sockets after reading through millions and millions of jumbled words and trying to make sense of them, grouping them so that they'd at least appear comprehensible to some idiot who'd have time to read. if i had known that i would be giving a crash course on writing i would have applied as an instructor in BU, maraya pa.

why people insist on doing things they suck at is beyond me. and to repeatedly do it. what is it? is it a form of self-discovery? a spiritual pilgrimage of some sort? a punishment for snotty, smug people like me?

feeling crappy today. actually, been feeling crappy the whole week. i maybe having a hormonal imbalance (of course i'm guessing here). my insomnia has gotten worse. i have a nagging suspicion - no, i'm sure - that my eyesight has leveled up from bad to worse (read: near blind). at the same time my tooth at the cornerest of the right side of my mouth (i don't know what it's called) is aching in a major way, telling me that i should be paying a visit to the dentist (one of my least favorite activities in the world) asap.

i think i ought to see a doctor. right now i'm working with a fever. i have a terrible runny nose, and to make it worse, the A/C here at the office is breathing down my back. literally. i haven't and am still not being nice to everyone, and not really feeling apologetic about it. but then again, maybe i'm just making a dramatic attempt at expressing laziness and a looming burnout. was that wordy? i thought so.

oh my god i hope i'm not about to get chicken pox. one of my best friends, meann, caught it this week. i can't, must not have chicken pox. i never had it and i certainly do not want it.

it's a good thing that yes, there are things to look forward to in this temporary crappy phase in my life:

1. The trip to HongKong, and possibly, Macau too. sure it's a month away, but oh, just the thought is enough to cheer me up...a bit. but cheers me up nevertheless.

can you spell Princess Hours Happy Ending Wedding Scene?

I need to have my picture taken here!

i heard people pay $70 to jump off that tower...

Macau they say, is like going to a place that's Las Vegas and Old Europe at the same time. It sure is making my feet itchy now.

2. Yen (my sister) and I, we are going to get ourselves this:

Sony T20 Cybershot
yes, it is possible for me to be nice to all things, including inanimate objects,
once i get my hands on this beauty.

3. that a day at the office ends at 5pm which means that i'm going to get the hell out of here now. and get some sleep. and forget about all this crap.

some thoughts today:

can't wait to get lost in the night market

one month and four days to go and mira and i will be off on a "lonely planet" of our own! i cannot wait. hong kong will be my first trip out of the country ever (never had a chance before), and i just know that i am going to have a blast (thanks to you, you know who you are!). and i just know that it won't be my last!

these days i pretty much have limited patience over everything. at the office i'm almost always sure to get irked over a badly constructed article, and no matter how i try to not be so blunt on the "offender" i'll always end up being pointy (saying observations and comments pointedly). i'm not a mean person, but i do have a mean streak sometimes and it doesn't help if people don't get it for the nth time. i guess this is the reason why i should never become president of the philippines.

i just realized that my faith in the filipinos' voting skills is almost about to be restored. i'm just glad that voters knew better than to vote the likes of goma and chavit into the senate. i'm not saying that i'm thoroughly happy with who's in the top 12 right now, but i'm pleased that people finally seem to have really thought about, and decided on candidates who could actually do the job -- not just make silly privilege speeches in the senate, order his aides around, make expensive and unnecessary trips abroad, and make the appearance of as if busy doing something good for the people. nagigising na ba ang pilipino? i certainly hope so. but my prayer is that whoever gets into the senate will not let us down again.

it seemed that the whole nation breathed a sigh of relief when manny pacquiao lost his congressional ambitions to darlene antonino-custodio. i guess nothing is scarier than getting into a boxing ring not knowing how and what to do with your hands, and your opponent. the people of general santos apparently knew this, thus darlene's landslide victory. it's really not enough to simply "want to help people" manny, even in boxing, it is not enough to want to fight -- you have to have the skills. hopefully lessons have been learned here.

not to say though that this year's elections was a clean and happy one. there were A LOT of cheating going on, not to mention violence (i lost an uncle to election-related violence just last week). sometimes with all the amount of killing, maiming, and outright violation of the law going on you'd think twice about this country believing that God exists. i am bothered by both cheating and people tolerating it. i have always agreed to ted failon and korina sanchez before when they say, kung walang magpapaloko, walang maloloko. change indeed, must begin within one's self. *cues michael jackson's Man in the Mirror*

something is seriously wrong with mark jimenez. how in the world this man can get away with this is beyond me. i know the truth can't always be found in the news, but looking at that man giving interviews just gives me the creeps.

on May 16, 2007, i became Korean.

no, i didn't switch citizenship. my student, Jung Da-ae, "baptized" me with my new korean name, Lee Jin-Ju (pronounced "ee chin-ju").

"Lee" is supposed to be my surname, and "Jin-Ju" my first name.

Da-ae (english name jenny) says my first name supposed to mean "jewel". she was asking me what word did i thought best described me so she can find its equivalent korean word and somehow make it my korean name, but i was too shy to tell her that it's "future mother of joo ji hoon's kids". or "goddess". she was suggesting "beautiful" but i said, anubeeeeh *blushes* nakakahiya! LOL. but i can always change my name later, couldn't i? hahaha!

'course i spent like 700 years writing my korean name (in windows paint) -- i couldn't draw a tight circle or a straight line even if my life depended on it.

anyway, thank you Da-ae for giving me my new name. i love it. kamsahamnida.

now about other things...

what i'm quite excited about the these days: Pirates of the Carribean At World's End.

woohooo, can't wait to see johnny depp - my first love, and oh my, chow-yun fat is there, so hurray for asians! (i heard that korean superstar Rain will also be making his first foray into hollywood with the movie Speedracer)

Chow Yun-Fat as Captain Sao Feng, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa and Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in Walt Disney Pictures' Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - 2007

okay, talking about movies, i was able to watch some korean movies of the comedy genre over the past week, one of my recent favorites: Too Beautiful to Lie starring Kim Ha Neul (another of my favorite korean actresses) and Kang Dong Won (i kras, i kras). super funny talaga sya, i was laughing my a$$ off at 3am in the morning watching this movie. KHN and KDW are excellent in this movie. i think this is KDW's earlier movies when he was just a rising star in korea, but grabe, his facial expressions alone during the funniest moments in the film super matatawa ka, and at the same time you'll go aaaawwww i waaaaannnaa give you a huggggg!!! he is so cute you can't help but love him to pieces. if you really want to see KDW in his acting best though, check out his latest works like Temptation of Wolves or Our Happy Time -- these films i heard, were his best. Kim ha neul of course, is a great actress -- she'd make you laugh and cry in this one. if you like her, don't miss out on her other films like Ditto (my personal favorite) and My Tutor Friend -- you're not going to regret it. =)

ELECTION DAY. GO OUT AND VOTE.

think of the ballot as your kids' or your future kids' future. VOTE WISELY. seriously.

senator miriam defensor-santiago was just on abs-cbn's election coverage. as usual, my mom and i loved her hirits.

quotes (not verbatim):

on the qualifications of a senator (ang gaganda ng mga sinabi nya dito pero ito 'yung mga naalala ko and natawa kami):

(talking about the philosophy of having the "basic" [ie literate, can read and write etc] qualifications clause in the constitution)
"kahit na sino talaga pwede (tumakbo, maging senador/presidente) -- kahit sinong gago pwede."

"ideally dapat bata pa - kasi may energy pa. 'yung mga matatanda na 'yung iba natutulog na sa senado. kasi hindi na kaya."

"...dapat mahilig magbasa. kung di mahilig magbasa PLEASE, wag na lang tumakbo."

"inisip ko magresign na lang kaya ako? kasi lahat ng 12 na makakasama ko sa senado ngayon lahat 'yan magnanakaw"

"all we need for a new national hero is for someone to run amok and gun down these 12 people"

LOL. idol talaga kita miriam! (pero wag mo isama sa igagundown si joker! hahaha!)

postnote:
but i agree with sen. miriam santiago that the provision about a congressman/ senator/ president in the constitution should be changed, it's not enough to be literate talaga. tama sya when she said na kung ang pulis nga sa pilipinas required to be a college graduate, bakit ang presidente hindi. weeeee i'm such a fan of miriam talaga, haha.

tomorrow is election day.

the envelopes have started arriving. emissaries are going round the neighborhoods handing out the "goods". even the "good guys" are in it. it's part of the game, the old folks say.

years ago when it was my first time to vote i did it with a sense of pride, and wow, lots of hope. now voting feels like climbing a mountain of garbage, hating the foul odor, hating the awful sight, hating the feel of slime under your feet -- but not being able to do anything about it. and while you're there hating and wishing and thinking of ways to make the horror go away, the mountain keeps growing under your feet. ang morbid di ba? but that's how it feels.

it seems that the mountain of garbage will never disappear.

just this afternoon we received news that an uncle has been shot dead in masbate. he had been serving as a bodyguard for some candidate there.

Finally, something really good on TV that's on the right TIME SLOT: GMA 7's the Philippine Agenda. was able to catch another episode this afternoon at grabe, when most of the time inis ako sa mga pulis natin because kung hindi mga kotong cops ang laging nasa news, mga incompetent naman. but watching the philippine agenda kanina naawa ako sa kalagayan ng mga pulis sa pilipinas; imagine meron palang nag-oopisina at gumagawa ng blotter in the dark?? at kamusta naman 'yung mga offices, kagamitan at training nila - to say na kulang sila sa pansin is an understatement. when philippine agenda went on to check if our police officers still knew the rights of the accused (which they were supposed to know by heart) and the definition of crimes like murder and homicide, di ko alam kung matatawa ako o maiiyak when the show revealed just how little our police officers knew. how in the world would you feel if you knew that the police officer in your community did not know what murder meant?

will he be able to recite your rights to you pronto?

same goes with the country's lawyers. with the thousands who take the bar exam each year, you would think that there won't be any shortages with the people who'd help us defend our rights. but no. this year, there is only one lawyer for every 88,000+ filipinos. apparently, out of all the lawyer wannabe's few ever really think of serving as a public attorney. how sad di ba.

now, who among our candidates (for senate, congress, governor, mayor) spewing all kinds of promises here and there are aware of issues like these and really intends to change things, and has the skills to change things, for the better?

8 days to go before election day. vote wisely guys.
