and the world in general:1. Posting a status message like this in your FB account:
XXXXXXX XXXXXXX: XXXXX XXXXXX: saw ds blogs in twitter from koreans.1 of d koreans said " hav u heard the news? The monkey island Philippines is flooded. I hope the rain will nver stop to drown those monkeys" all of them laughing!! Anoder korean said" ...............they will all die because monkeys cannot swim" then laughed..Pls pass ds msg Send as many as u can! koreans in our country dsnt deserve our hospitality(reposting)
First off, I saw this "blogs in twitter" that you folks are talking about and it could easily be fake. And even if it's not fake, making a hate campaign to ALL Koreans because of "this blogs in twitter" doesn't just make us NOT ANY DIFFERENT from this irrelevant poster it also makes us terribly stupid for actually wasting our time and energy on "this blogs in twitter" when we have people dying at this very moment who could use our help.
So why don't we all just ignore the haters (imaginary and real) and focus on helping get things done? You know, like getting off of your computer reposting chismis and go out, help people?
2. Not learning from this experience. If we continue to throw your garbage everywhere except the right place, then we're not helping. If we continue to demolish our forests like there was no tomorrow, then we're not helping. If we do not think of long term solutions fast, then we're not helping. If we vote for leaders who don't have the environment as a top priority in their platform, then we're not helping.
3. Not giving a shit. But we all know we can't do much about this part, don't we.

This storm reminds me of another typhoon which caught us by surprise: typhoon Reming. That betch of a typhoon took so many lives in Legazpi (Albay). My family and I would've lost our lives too had we not evacuated our house (which was in an area which never flooded before-- until that storm.). Remains as one of the scariest things to ever happen in my life.
Also.

"I have cancer."It's one of the last things you'd want to hear from somebody you love. Sure they can say abominable stuff like "I'm pregnant and I'm not sure who the father is but it could be that shady character from last night". Or "I just lost my job because my boss caught me watching porn in the office". Or "I pooped and it wouldn't flush!1!!"
But not "I have cancer".
We always think that the sad stuff we see in movies and soap operas would never happen to us and the people close to us. We live in a world filled with everyday worries-- trivial matters, come to think of it -- that it would never occur to us that tragedy would hit. We live our lives thinking that somehow the love we shower to those close to us and the love showered to us by those who love us are enough to shield us from the truly terrible side of life.
But as it turns out, the universe always has a different plan. One that's always, always shockingly different from our own.
I'm writing this blog for one of my most favorite people in the world who was diagnosed with cancer and is celebrating her birthday today. When our dear friend Anna told us she had neuroendoctrine tumor, a type of cancer, several weeks ago we could only stare blankly at her in disbelief and shock, as if she've begun speaking in some alien language our minds couldn't decipher. It was as if the universe was just playing a not so funny joke on us. We looked at the universe incredulously with "YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING" expressions on our faces, willing ourselves to laugh. I mean, how could it be? Anna is one of the most awesome people on earth! She can make you laugh when all you want to do is slash your wrists! She can outdrink everyone (without acting like a doofus unlike some other people out there)! She throws the best parties! And she can make the most awesome pasta in the world and bake the most amazing cheesebars and brownies in the world! Cancer doesn't happen to awesome people!
But it does. And it did, to Anna. And now she's fighting the fight of her life. And having no power to convince or charm the universe to just take the cancer away or just transfer it to some evil politician who's less deserving of earthly space than she is, we'd like to help Anna WIN this battle in our own little way: we're selling ballers with the words "i cancervive" embossed in them. For just P100.00 you can help us help Anna WIN THIS BATTLE. All proceeds will go to her chemotherapy (which she'll undergo every 21 days) and other medical expenses.
For orders (or if you're more generous, pledges -- bless you, bless you!) please email Mitch at rmitchel_26@yahoo.com or get in touch with her via YM (mitchcanimo). You can also reach us at 09212654877.
For you guys with the more generous hearts:
Account name: Kristine Anne Alvarez
Account number: 131-106391-3
I'm sure that the universe will find a way to repay all of your kindness (like a date with that hottie you've been eyeing for years now?)
Help us help Anna win against cancer. Wear the icancervive baller. Be part of TEAM ANNA, FTW!!
P.S.

If you're in the Philippines and you haven't experienced swimming with this guy yet, you're missing something really, really magical. Whale sharks -- abundant here in the Philippines (especially in Donsol and Batangas) are enchanting, enchanting creatures.
Course I nearly drowned our guide hanging on for dear life (mine!) because I didn't know how to swim (my version was flailing in the water) and use the damn snorkels, but seeing a whale shark the size of a house swimming underneath me had to be one of the scariest and most exciting moments of my life (definitely in that category of feeling something for that guy four years ago). And the fish (it is the largest living fish on the planet) was so close I could almost touch it! And there were like six of them in that area. At the same time. Now these guys aren't a threat to humans, they only eat plankton and small squids. For something so big this guy's diet is pretty humble. We should learn something from this guy.
Come to think of it, if people only had more encounters with other species living in this planet maybe, just maybe, we'll stop being so self-absorbed for a while and think twice about throwing that plastic bag to the ocean the next time we go to Boracay or Puerto Galera.
And speaking of plastics, Lucky Me instant noodles has a new, more environment-friendly packaging - from those killer styrofoam containers our favorite quickie meal now comes in the same material as your paper cups. We all know that styrofoams - though reusable sometimes, are non-biodegradable and non-recyclable. And even if there are ways to reuse them again, admit it, most of us simply are not interested and don't have the time to make cute styrofoam creations. Unless you're artsy craftsy like this person here. Or Martha Stewart. My only beef against the new instant noodles packaging is the plastic fork that's not only made of plastic but is just about as big as a five-month old baby's utensils. Kinda stupid, unless your msg market are just the kids (which is unfair). Do away with this stupid miniature fork please Mondenissin people okay?
Also, try this folks. The next time you eat in that favorite fast food chain of yours, try making a suggestion to the folks in charge to quit using plastic utensils because 1. they're virtually useless in spearing that yummy crispy chicken and 2. they're boring. My sister tried it at a local Jollibee outlet and the next time we came to visit they served the food in lovely sunny yellow ceramic plates and real forks and spoons. So we eated more happily.
So yay! for blog action day!
